Senaga Island (Senagashima in Japanese) is a small island just south of Naha Airport. Once known only as an excellent place to watch the sunset and the planes as they take off and land, the island recently opened a gorgeous new complex that resembles a mountainside Greek village. Clusters of whitewashed buildings arranged in terraces stretch from hilltop to the edge of the sea, filled with cafes and restaurants and a range of boutiques. Sit and sip a glass of wine while enjoying the ocean views before browsing the boutiques for your perfect Okinawa souvenir.

By Mandy Bartok
Community writer
You can enjoy excellent sunset views from all levels of the Umikaji Terrace
The number plates outside each shop use the colors of the ocean
The terraced shopping district looks like a Greek village
Andagi (Okinawan donuts) with tropical flavored ice cream are sold at one of the shops
There are about three dozen shops in the complex
A good number of restaurants are scattered among the shops
