When staying at Tomato Hostel, Osaka it’d be foolish not to enjoy the Yodogawa River. Its banks are just a few metres from the hostel and there’s surprisingly a lot to do. Whether you enjoy long walks of perhaps relaxing in the sun the area can be enjoyed in many ways. With incredible views over the Umeda area I chose to take a stroll at sunset. Walking west along the banks you can watch the Umeda sky building light up. Viewing the city from a high vantage point isn’t the only way to enjoy the neon glow. Though a beautiful area all year round a visit in August will be most rewarding. During the first Saturday of the month is the Yodogawa Hanabi Takai (firework display). Kansai’s largest display, I’m sure it’s a magnificent sight to behold.

A final glimpse of the sun as it went down
Sunset in this area is beautiful
Watch as the city comes alive just after dark
You can even view planes coming in to land at Osaka Itami Airport. This was just a small plane. The Boeings are gigantic
In August fireworks rather than the lights of buildings illuminate the river bank
Just to show how close the river is when staying at Tomato hostel
