Walk from Kyushu to Honshu in just 15 minutes via the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel. Separated by only 700m at its closest points, the peninsulas are linked by the Kanmon Bridge on the surface and for pedestrians, head underwater to cross the Kanmon straits from Moji in Kitakyushu to Shimonoseki on Honshu through the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel.

Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel
Walk between Honshu (Shimonoseki) and Kyushu (Moji)
By Jaclynn Seah

An underwater tunnel of around 700m connects Kyushu to Honshu
Above the surface, cars will travel on the 712m long Kanmon Bridge
One expects to see the tunnel immediately, but look for a short building with a sign indicating the entrance to the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel. On Moji, this building is across the road from Mekari-jinja Shrine.
Take the lift down to the bottom.
700m of tunnel to walk - it's slightly sloping. Cyclists have to get off and push their bikes. There were a lot of people jogging along this stretch
Painted fish cover the walls of the tunnel
At the halfway point between Shimonoseki and Moji
Emerge at the Shimonoseki side
You are close to Hinoyama Park, head up to get a bird's eye view of the Kanmon straits

I'm going to Kyushu later this year and looking for fun and quirky things to do - and I came across your article! This is super unique - I never even knew I could walk from one island to the other until reading your piece!
